AND THE WINNER OF THE 1st EVER ARTBYROX RAFFLE IS...

First, let me thank all of you who came out today to the 3rd Annual SINTERKLAAS Craft Fair in Rhinebeck.  Not only was it a lot of fun, but artisans were able to offer their support to a truly wonderful holiday experience for young and old.  And December 4th is almost here!

Ok... so I know the suspense is killing you and there were concerns about the entry slips being sticky notes, and that it might be hard to pick one if they are all sticking together.  And you all know that I would like nothing better to just give everyone a free HEART by ROX card pack.  But Alpha and Omega, my two blue point siamese, just wouldn't have it.  They said, "Hey. This is not as hard as it seems. We know we can fairly pick one." So they made me fold each sticky note up separately and put them in a big brown paper bag.  Then Omie went in first to make sure no one was left out and then had me dump them on the dining room floor.  And as you can see, an awful lot of serious scurrying around went on, until Alpha took charge and zeroed in on ANDREA LANDES of Hyde Park...

Yes, Andrea... Congratulations!  You are the lucky soul to receive the HEART by ROX card pack of your choice!  (We'll be in touch...)

PRINTWORK '10: National Juried Printmaking Exhibition

WHAT'S BRED IN THE BONE
Solar Plate Etching

This etching is one of two in PRINTWORK ’10, a national show on view at Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, NY through August 19th.  Entries were juried by Ashley Miller, PhD, from the Department of 19th Century, Modern and Contemporary Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY.

This particular piece was inspired by my 5-week residence in Florence, Italy back in August of 2001, and incorporates my fascination with their Museum of Paleontology.  Wendy, my childhood friend, appears once again; her essence here, one of shadow, representing an unconscious element that harbors memory from not only this life, but past and future as well.  Through an evolutionary transformation, she sprouts the skeletal form of hand/wing, as she transcends the physical in her desire to experience a higher spiritual plane.

"Invisible"
Image:  13 1/2" x 11 1/2"
Frame:  26" x 22 1/2" - Maple
I am so pleased to share with you a selection of  MONO-PRINTS available at the The Gazen Gallery  in Rhinebeck, NY from April 17th - June 13th, 2010.

These four light and airy prints are part of a larger abstract series of mine not yet shown in its entirety. The often unpredictability and spontaneity of this particular medium fascinates me as the layers and transparencies evolve.

People may grow up in a similar environment, yet their individual perspectives will vary  greatly. How we interpret and remember our surroundings has always intrigued me.  I love to visually explore the fragmentary nature of memory and the many ways that it melds and/or disintegrates over time.  Textural layers seem to naturally form in this process, as elements choose to surface or re-surface, leaving others behind to recede into the distance.

Thank you, Gazen Gallery, for this great opportunity!

THE CAT'S MEOW
AUCTION & GALA

Veterinarian Sharon Eisen from Danbury, Ct. became the proud new owner of "Cathexis", my contribution to Cat-n-Around Catskill 2009...a Quadricentennial Celebration held in the Village of Catskill. Sharon purchased last year's creation "Cat Tales", as well. Check out Sharon's new book (to your right) co-authored with Linda Francese at www.plaidpluscattery.com. Don't be too surprised when you find a picture of last year's Catskill cat in it!!!

CAT'N AROUND CATSKILL 2009

The Catskill Chamber of Commerce honors this year's Quadra-Centennial celebration of the discovery of the Hudson River with another fabulous display of sixty-some fiberglass cats placed at strategic points up and down Main Street in the town of Catskill, NY. The sculptures are painted by artists residing in the Hudson River Valley and are on exhibit through September.

Take a day trip up to Catskill and check them out !

CATHEXIS by Roxie

DESIGN STATEMENT:

Birds of prey once lived abundantly in the Hudson Valley prior to increased pesticide use following WWII.  It is through the banning of DDT in the US and other conservation efforts that a strategy to reestablish these nesting birds was devised.  My image depicts first snowfall over the Catskills, viewed from the Vanderbilt Estate in Hyde Park, NY, and celebrates the recovery of all avian species.  It is my intention to capture a timeless and magical moment in the valley where all sentient beings co-exist in complete harmony.  My title refers to the psychic and emotional energies that we, as a human race, invest in our environment and in giving birth to discovery.

On the last Thursday night of each month, Barrett Art Center
opens its doors for an evening of conversation with local
artists and friends.
This has become a great opportunity for artists, like
myself, to share their work and connect with other
creative minds.
Thank you BAC, the Dutchess County Arts Council
and all who attended for your support !!!

an exciting display of printwork by artist Carol Struve and myself.

Carol's abstract monoprints bring a delightful and dramatic sense
of color to the show, beautifully complementing  the monochromatic
nature of my own work.
VISIT CLAYWORKS at 485 Main Street in Poughkeepsie
AND ENJOY A GREAT SHOW !!!
Artwork remains on display through APRIL 18th.
Gallery hours:  Thurs. and Fri., 1-5 pm.
